Default 2001 V70 Check Engine Codes

Good morning,

I'm getting these codes and I was hoping you all could help me diagnose them.

P0458 - Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Value Circuit Low x2
P0075 - Intake Value Control Circuit (Bank 1) x2
P0445 - Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Value Circuit Shorted x2
P2401 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit Low x2
P0011 - Intake Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Advanced (Bank 1)
P0441 - Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow

I'm selling this car for a friend. The REM is out and I tried to reset it using the steps found elsewhere on this forum where you disconnect the negative post on the battery. I can't remember if the check engine light was on before I did the reset. It's also making a weird whine sound when the brake is applied, but it isn't the brakes whining as far as a can tell. Sounds like when a fan is off center, almost like the deceleration is making it off center. Sounds like it is coming from inside the dash in the glove box area. That's not the priority though, the codes are the priority.

Yes - erase the codes - drive and see what comes back. You have 4 evap codes - one is for the leak detection pump. A 2001 does not have a leak detection pump - so not sure what your scan tool thinks is going on. The other three I would make sure the purge valve has vacuum lines and electrical plugged in. Then drive the car -to see what comes back.

The Cam position codes - need to test the solenoid - using VIDA is a simple process, not sure what a generic scan tool can do. If the cam belt was replaced someone may have gotten the timing slightly off also.

REM is out? What does that mean?

Heater fan motors can make noise as you described - the solution is replacement.

The REM is malfunctioning or needs to be updated. So all the rear door electronics don't work, gas gauge doesn't work and a few other things.

Ok I had a friend come by and he was able to read the Volvo codes and after erasing them the only one that remained was:

ECM - 4000 Canister Purge (CP) Value

Is that the solenoid you were referring to?

the purge valve is just a small valve that opens/closes to provide engine vacuum back to the evap system. Not sure where it is on the V70 but on my S40 its up on the right hand side of the radiator and has a connector and a couple of vacuum lines going to it. That's purely an emissions feature and while it will set a CEL code, it won't impact driveability. Sometimes this fault can also appear as a "small evap leak detected" code which may also be caused by a torn vacuum line (there's a long line that goes from the purge valve all the way back to the evap cannister... I had to get a smoke test done to find that leak....)

I'm using this diagram to try and locate the purge valve, but I can't really tell what part of the car I'm looking at.

The valve is #13 mounted near the left corner of the fan shroud

I gathered that much. The fan shroud is the radiator far? So this would be front left of engine?
