Default Electrical issue?

The brights on my '01 T5 seem to have a mind of their own . First off, the brights can be turned on simply by a very light tap of the stick towards the driver, as well has by the normal pull towards the driver. On occasion the brights will turn themselves on after the directional stick snaps off, and last night they turned themselves on without anyone touching the car, just sitting in the garage. Any ideas?

Never seen that but it might lead me to the turn signal switch as being bad.

My 01 is the opposite. I can't turn them on at all. I HAVE to hold down the lever toward me for the brights to be on. I guess there is a switch or something that is supposed to toggle that isn't working.

Hummerguy, the dash switch needs to be at 12:00 not the 9:00 position or all you'll have is low beams, unless you pull (and hold)the high beam flash to pass.

Just had to jump it this morning because the battery was dead again. Drove it last night, and the lights were off when I left it in the garage. Should the lights be able to go on and stay on or should the vehicle turn the lights off automatically once the car is off?

Normally they will stay off. But the highbeams will come on if you pull the switch back. So if it is bad/shorted they can still come on.
