by engine management light you are referring to the check engine light and not to the service light? If you have a check engine light on it means the ECU has registered a fault code and you need an ODB-II reader to display the codes and then reset the ECU. The codes will tell which sensors are involved. If you have a problem, the code will reappear until you correct the fault. You can find a friendly tech or autoparts store and ask if they can read the codes for you (many will do for free). If its the service light, that's just a maintenance interval telling you its been xx miles since the last reset. The 98 V70 may require the OBD reader to reset the service light as well - 98 was the first year Volvo went from a service tool reset to the odometer button reset - which may not work on all models. after 98, resetting the service (maintenance interval) light is done by pressing the odometer reset, turning the key onto the II position (warning lights lit but not started). When the lights self test, wait for the service indicator to flash (my s40 also gives a chirp) then you can turn the key off and now start the car.
