Default Jewel Headlights C70 to V70

I have owned for 20 years a 1998 V70R with only 128K. I just had the bumpers and mirror covers repainted last month and now it looks brand new again since it has always been garaged and the paint is nearly perfect aside from a couple of retouched stone chips.

I bought some DEPO C70 glass lensed replacement Jewel lights for it to complete the update I already had the new corner lights to install.

But the shop says they won't fit in the R. They have different backs and a five pin plug vs. three pin on the R, along with a 5 watt bulb location under the high beams.
I already have a set of H7 bulbs to replace the H1's from the R.

Is there something I'm missing? Do these fit? Will they work with the wiring harness I have? Do I just need to change the attachment plug from 3 pin to five pin.
Have looked and there are many conversions but no one talks about this specific issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On another note has anyone put the protective XPEL or 3M protection on the bumpers and mirrors, I can't find a kit.

I should note that this is a US spec car that I imported and registered in France.

Frustrated in France

PS Why have I never posted before? Because nothing has ever gone wrong with it...my wife says she is going to give me a Viking funeral in it, set me on fire and push me into Lake Geneva when I die because I have moved it to four countries....

This mod never occurred to me, but I'm interested. I might like to do this on mine too. I am not familiar with DEPO; have TYC lamps on my car now.
The V70 headlamps have 3 wires. There's power to the low beam, power to the high beam, and ground. That's all you need.

So on the C70 headlamp, you need to figure out what all is required to make it work, and my guess would be it'll just work with physically compatible plugs after you abandon that extra bulb. The way those are made, you can just look inside and see which wire goes where.

I'll see if I have a wiring diagram that explains it and then check back.

Default C70 Jewel DEPO Headlights don't fit in V70R.

Thanks Firebird;

Nice of you to check in. I had further discussions with my mechanic and they indicate that the mounting bolts and positions for the C 70 DEPO Jewel lights don't fit and or match up with on the V70R. So no go. These guys are pretty enterprising so I tend to believe them.

Would like to see that wiring diagram if you find it please.

Would still like to hear from someone who has done the conversion since there are quite a few of them out there.

Still Frustrated.

Well, I might need to read some long project threads where cars have this mod. Looking at your pics, I do see where the attachments are not at all similar. Hmm. I guess that tells us the C70 has a unique rad support.

Default You have been shipped the wrong headlights

It looks like you have been shipped headlights from a 2000 - 2004 Volvo V40. These are similar in shape to the Jewel headlights from a 2003 - 2004 C70, but they won't physically fit. If it isn't too late, I would ship them back for a refund, and tell them that they sent the wrong lights. Don't let this deter you from the Jewels conversion, actual Jewels from a C70 should bolt right on to the factory core support. I knew something was off when I saw that this takes H7 bulbs, Jewels take H11 bulbs for the low beams, and 9005 bulbs for the high beams. Also, as far as I know, there is no P80 chassis Volvo that uses a 5 pin connector for the headlights. The connector will usually be a 3 pin, with space for a 4th pin.

Default Thanks WPM!

WPM;
Really appreciate your note.

Yes I'm afraid that I agree with you, wrong lights, doubt I will get a refund but will try.

That is good news about the 3 pin connectors being the same on the V70 and C70. Was afraid I was going to have to rewire the connectors to make a 5 pin work.

Still trying to locate a set of new glass C70 Jewel Headlights.
Seems pointless to buy used given the issues with fading reflective coatings on older headlights, which I think for the first time are affecting my '98 OEM headlights.

Anyone have a good supplier for both left and right Jewel lights?
For some reason the driver's side is extremely difficult to locate.

Thanks again, james
