Default Lighter socket fuse shorts out

My rear lighter socket constantly shorts out as soon as I replace the fuse. Do I replace it? Can I use a generic one or do I need to get one from Vovlo?

Is anything plugged on when you replace the fuse?
Also has the center console been out lately?

I don't think anything has been plugged in when I've replaced the fuse but I can try again. Not sure about the console either. I've had so much work done on the car. This is the lighter in between the seats behind the cup holders. Here's a picture of the replacement that I was going to install...if I figured out how. Do you think it will fit?

It might I am not sure. I asked about the center console because if someone had it out and pinched a wire going back in it can be causing a short.

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. Thanks so much.

Is there a way for me to check to see if the wires are pinched? I just eyeball as much wire as I can for some sort of bare wire?

I would remove the center console and check the wiring.
You will need to remove the little pen holder panel under the climate controls. Then the outer cover by the shifter. You should see 2 screws from the console to the dash(T-25)
Then on each side is a long panel that goes from the dash to the console. Use a straight screwdriver and turn the clips and slide the panel back and out to remove.
Then in the back under the console lid all the way at the bottom is a panel. Remove the panel and the 2 screws. Then console will then be loose. Lift up some the back part has the wiring and a plug for the lighter. You have to unplug the plug to remove the console. Then check the wiring. Also with it still unplugged try another fuse and if it still blows it is not the socket.

Like Tech said, unplug the socket and try a new fuse; that will tell you right away if it's the socket or the upstream wiring.

You didn't mention if the socket was used as a lighter or not. Those sockets have a tendency to short out after awhile if they're actually used for cigs.

It blows new fuses right away so I guess it must be an upstream wiring problem. Sounds like a job that's beyond me. I was hoping to avoid taking it to a mechanic. Oh well...
