Newbie-Soon to be v70-r owner
Hello Forum,
I will be selling my bmw convertible (custom supercharged and diy tuned) and purchasing a v70r wagon.
To tune the bmw for boost, I had to read the chip and create a definition file by examining the hex code for the fuel/timing/maf/etc maps. I don't want to do this again, particularly in an OBD2 car.
Before I jump headfirst into the v70r, please let me know if software is available for diy tuning of the ecu in a 2004 and newer v70r. [It appears that no DIY tuning, but I hope I am wrong]
If not, what are the resources for modifying the ecu after hardware upgrades?[I foundsome companies and prices are similar to BMW tunes].
What are the best/typical upgrade paths on these cars? [downpipes/exhaust plus chip seems to be it.]
Thanks. It looks like a great board.

DIY tuning ... the short awnser is no. I also looked into that when I got my Volvo, but have been told it would take nothing short of a miracle to do it ... unless of course you worked for Volvo and had access to some privy information.
There are some good tuning companies out there ... IPD USA, BSR, Speed Tuning (I think).
I haven't used any of these ... yet ... but those seem to be the most commonly mentioned ones.
Cheers.

FYI there are standalone systems that some Volvo oweners have used. I know Civinico is one of them and I know there is another one, but forget the name. For an 04 model though, don't know if it would work.
IPD USA, BSR PPC and RICA are three best ECU tuning companies for our Volvo's. Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA and Inmotion are decent low cost tuners, but if you have the money go for one of the first three companies listed.
Typical upgrades are... Stage Zero (Bringing your car up to factory spec), Intake, Downpipe, Catback, ECU upgrade. In that order too.
More upgrades include turbo upgrades, injector upgrades, intercooler upgrades, Pistions, Etc...

I am choosing the r for the stronger piston/cranks/etc.. I know it can handle more power than the 300hp.
I can't go standalone because I live in an area that requires emissions checks. Not a problem with the obd1 car which is sniffer only, but I have to have the obd2 readout for the volvo.

Then your going to have to go with IPD USA, BSR PPC or RICA PPC. Unless you want to spend less and try Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA or Inmotion. I recommend IPD USA, BSR PPC and or RICA PPC.
