Default 2001 V70 XC vibration question

hi All,

I'm having an issue with my V70 XC that i can't seem to pinpoint.

June 29, 2011 I replaced inner and outer tie rods. July 15, 2011 i had my car inspected and was told I had an issue with my tie rods.

Went back to the shop and they replaced the defective part.

Jump forward to late February and I had my tires rotated (new tires in October 2011).

Shortly after, car starts to shake when accellerating (when reaching about 40 mph and again around 60 mph).

Bring it back to the garage on March 1, 2012 and am told outer tie rods are bad (again) and they replace them and realign the car.

Two weeks later, the shaking is back and worse than ever.

Bring it back in and found out they put the 2WD version of the outer tie rods on instead of the 4WD version.

Now the front end is tight, but when driving alone in the car, the vibration is very bad at highway speeds. Around town it is fine.

If my wife is in the car with me, the vibration is nearly gone.

I'm worried they might have done some damage by putting on the wrong tie rods.

I'm having the tires balanced and rotated (to see if this might be part of the issue). But I can't get into my Volvo mechanic until the week after next.

I don't want to do damage to my car. I don't know if this related to the tie rods or a coincidence?!?!

Also, I can't have my wife drive with me everywhere I go.

Thoughts?

TIA

I would guess that it is some problem with the AWD driveline. Lots of stuff to wear or otherwise vibrate. That said, the tires are part of said driveline and you did say things got bad after a rotation procedure, so look very hard at tire diameters and inflation.

It sounds like something is eating tie rod ends in your car so they are probably a victim of whatever problem you have rather than the cause.

This forum is lame when the only response you get is from other noobs
