Default Fair estimate for timing belt

On a 98 xc70awd. With and without water pump replacement. Got one bid from dealer but need some more data from you experts out there.

Depends on the area you are in and who does it for you. I would suggest calling a few different shops in your area to get an estimate, the dealer is going to be more expensive than a private shop. It will probably be around $400.

Thanks, what I was looking for. Haven't had it done in long time and wanted some recent experiences. Got a quote for $700 and didn't include water pump.

That sounds a little high, but I've never done it at a dealer, I bet there is a good reputable shop in your area that will do it for a few hundred less. Good luck to you, and let us know how much it ended up being and where you went, thanks.

I've befriended my local Indy, so he helps me out. I bought the core for cost. And he is a guru! Knows all the little secrets.

My final bill was $880 but that included a bent sway bar replaced, rear seals leaking replaced, along with the timing belt.

Yes, and it was less than from an indie service station. Go figure. I prepped the dealer with "want to know what's happening with oil leak and any/everything else" before decide what next". Dealer came back with the rear seals and timing belt, and stated that I should expect 400-500k miles out of the car. We will see. Quizzed him on awd drivetrain and came back with the same. Said the awd failure was really rare. This dealer works on a good number of high mileage awd v70s, so there appears to be some real experience behind that. We will see!

Thanks. Like me it has a few creaks and groans but I think the xc is likely to go 350k anyway.
