How do you disconnect the brake line where I'm pointing (what is shown is opposite the caliper connection)? Do I need to remove the retainer clip (left side of my finger to release the line) or do you just unscrew from where my finger is (large black rubber covering is about 2-3")?

I peeled back that rubber sleeve. Now I can see what;s going on. Looks like I have to probably apply open end wrenches on both ends of the line. The left (copper piping, 11mm) and 9/16" other end.

It's a bitch. Won;t budge. I sprayed WD40 on the copper piping side. Any other thought on getting this
loosened?

So, once I get these buggers loose and disconnected, do I have to unfasten or spread that retainer clip to remove the line?

Another 2 minute job and $15 part that's going to be a BB......

Yes the brass nut has to be backed off, but be careful that the line doesn't spin with it. The clip has to come off.

 

Try spraying the connection with PB Blaster or Aero-Kroil. BOth work well freeing stubborn connections

I bought the brake line for $17 versus $55 from the Volvo Stealer.

Well, just not budging and basically destroyong the fitting. Vice grips are just not holding on and spin.

If I just cut the pipe about the nut, what am I looking at? re qwe talking flaring the piping again or is there fittings that can be put on like plumbing or am I screwed and need to take it my my local resonable guy to fix it?

Oh, BTW, it would be nice if the clip can off first. At least I could get a better grip on it...

 

You can adapt the line with standard compression fittings found in plumbing, as long as the diameters match.

 

Cool, think that's the best way to go Eric? I don;t how this is going to disconnect. If I have to do this much work to get it loose, don;t think it will.

 

Once you round off the nut on the fitting, it's not coming apart. The local auto store may have the fitting you need, if you can't make the match at the hardware store. Be sure to give it a few good brake pedal tests to check for leaks, seeing that you most likely are going to refit the hose too.

 

Eric, isn;t the blrake line fittings for higher pressure? Compression fittings for plumbing may not be adquate enough don;t you think? Boy, this really bites......

 

The brass fittings are stronger than the flex hose that they feed into. I you do it right,all will be fine. If in dought, go to Volvo and get the replacement parts.

 

No, that's solves my curiosity. wonder what the local guys would do in this situation? Would they replace the whole piping line? It goes behind the wheel well, and not on a lift, so I really can;t see how much piping there is.

Shoot, worse case if doesn;t work, then will have to replace and probably have a mechanic do it...

I have to add, that I have a ton of experience in the use and manufacture of high pressure hydraulic fittings, in both military and civilian applications. If youhaven't spent alot of timein rework or repairin this field, then brake lines are not a good place to start. If this is the case, get the factory replacement parts.Then go through the proper brake line bleeding sequence.

 

Good tip eric. I've used compression fittings for my plumbing around the house, but that;'s it. I'll call aound tomorrow for the piping side of things and see If I can tackle it or have someone my local guy do it. I just can;t believe such a simple thing made so difficult. Why not just used stainless or something. Well, I guess, maintainence is where and how they make money eah!!!
