Default Front Suspension advice... Need help!

I am replacing the front shock/struts on my 99 XC...

I would love some recommendations for front shocks.. Factory Sachs or Biltsteins? Are there different part #'s for the V70 & the XC?

Also, I am wanting to fix the clunking going over bumps.. Will I need to install new upper spring seats? Shock Mount bearings?

I appreciate your help...

Your springs are probably OK unless you live somewhere that salts the roads frequently or they are cracked or broken. The clunking is most liking coming from the big rubber bushing underneath your strut mount bearing being worn out. If you are going to take it apart and compress your springs then I would recommend replacing all of the top mount parts. You may also want to look at your ball joints also while you have it apart. I put Sachs struts on mine. Be sure to use a quality spring compressor if you have never done this.

Ok... I am looking at replacing:

- Shock/strut
- Upper spring seat
- Shock mount bearing
- strut bump stop

Is this overkill or recommended? Also, needing to know if the part # on shocks will be same for the v70 awd, and the XC 70? With the raised suspension of the XC, is it a different part? Thx

I would recommend changing all of that. I also changed my lower control arms and ball joints when I did it. As for the top parts, you are right there at them and you have to compress the springs to do any of that work so I would just get it all done while you are at it. I am not going to be any help with part numbers. call FCP Groton and ask a tech. Good luck!
