Key goes into ignition but is locked and will not turn.

 

Sounds like a bad Lock cylinder assembly.

 

Try jiggling wheel and turning key extremely hard not to hard to breaking point of key but very hard (took 2 hands for me almost got out vise grips...) after turning it really hard key went into a free spin if that happens just remove key and try again this has happened to me multiple times and still happens what is more of a pain is when it wont let your key in *! good luck

 

I jiggled the steering wheel and turned the key hard and it worked! Thanks for great advice. Saved money and time to have Volvo towed to service dealer.

 

no problem just helping out and being helped myself volvo has screwwy locks.... same incedent with trunk heh.... trying to hunt down a censor on my car for fan control module overheating well g/l bud see ya round

 

Keep an eye on it I will bet it will happen again.

This problem mostly occurs in Ford vehicles.

Next time it happens again and you still can't wiggle the wheel and work it out, then try to put some grease or oil on the key.
It might work.
A friend of mine had a Ford. I can't remember which vehicle but it was a small sedan and he had the exact same problem.

He put some grease on the key and it worked.
