Cool tranny please help

Long story short. I was able to get a 2001 C70 XC from the company for 300.00 dollars they where going to put a for sale sign on it for 500.00/B.O NEEDS TRANNY AND CAT. I got 300 I have had it for 3 days. The code I got was P0144..Thats the only code I erased it and has not come on in 24 hrs..Prombaly will come on again...What is this code and where should I start to check? The tranny ( and this might be wishfull thinking). It hits a little hard when going into Drive.. and if I take off from a stop normal acceleration and keep it above or right on 2000 rpms it will shift smoothly. Also when stopping a little fast SOMETIMES it hits hard when down shifting into second (AUTO Mode) last ly some times turning whith out stoping I can make not catch for a second.Almost like all the tranny fluid went to one side. The wqish full thinking part is How are mount suppossed to feel? The on the fire wall Engine top side and front mount bottom I can wiggle the nuts a good inch either way. Any change the mount are gone and that what the issue is. I really like this car has like every option I think? Keep in mind 90 percent of the time I can control any hitting f exempt when shifting in to drive .Unless on slight hill like I send/car rolloing a little. Any help would be great. Can't check tranny fluid in this car?

The dipstick is very hard to find but it is there.
I would do a flush on it. But do it your self. Also check all the mounts. You might also want to see if the neutral control function has been disabled.

Default checked

I did find the dip stick..not easy to check exspeacaily when hot....Ouch!I wish I knew how to post a pic <--can you see that pic? I took the dip stick out whith car at full operating temp. and in nuatral...I could see how to check it in the book but in the past cars Ive had they said to check it with car in neutral . I drove about 40 miles on the free way and then about another 5-8 min on surface roads and then checked immediatly . the dip stick was covered but only up to the word cold. I put in back and pulled it out and it was cover all the way up..but maybe there was fluid in dip stick canal wall tht made it look like it was where it is supposed to be? How to I see if the neutral control switch is working or not? O the engine does surge to.when I come to a stop and don't have the brake pressed hard seems to launch forward a little bit. I plan to flush the system this weekend hopefully just need to know exactly how to do..I did find something on line but have to read it again.

Default mounts

I checked the mounts. I see three I think (1) at top firewall drivers side.(1) at bottom front drivers side and (1) lower firewall drivers side.<---could move this one but the other two I can move a little with my hand. The rubber is there and the bolt I can move back and forth with my fingers

Default mounts again

Sorry I just got this car and I really like it. So I want to try to get it fixed.Your help is very apprciated Ill try not to be that big of a pain in the ***. I checked them again. There four mounts that I can see around the tranny area. There is a small one mounted to the firewall & top of engine iT moves pretty easy/freely ..easy to get to/replace. Under that one the is a bigger round one right above the steering rack can't seem to move it...Not sure if I could anyways allot weight on that one. There is another small one easy to get to/replace.. that one moves easy as well its connected to the bottom of the tranny. And the fourth one is another big one it in the front drivers side. Can't move it with my hands. the engine is still a little warm but not to much. The dip stick has fluid all the way up it to the hot line...now..That don't make sense..hmmmm ill check it before i leave for work with car ice cold.

Yes check the fluid cold next.
For the round mounts they are hydraulic. If they are bad there will be an Orange rust looking stain under the mounts.
The R/S(front of motor) you can look at the front or back of the mount and see if the square part is touching the subframe.
The top mount look at it with a flashlight and see if the rubber has torn apart.

The only way to find out about the neutral control is to check with a Dealer.
You can ask them to check the history and see if it has been done. If not and you need to get it done it should be like 1 hour labor and between $30.00 and $50.00 for the software.

I will help all I can. I am usually on at night.

Question fluid checked

I checked the fluid this morning before I started the car, its weird. the fluid read very full??????past the hot line. But when the car is hot it reads like theres not enough in there I have pics but don't know how to post them here. Also Do you know of any other trans fluis that will work besides the volvo stuff seems pretty exspensive? I know I read mobil 3309 will work but auto zone don't have I don't think. Is there anything else. I think I have the info correct on the procedure to flush the system basicly just attach a clear hose to the cooler.(top line/return outlet. drain tranny first and then put plug back in and add new ATF the same amount that i took out.Start car let come out of hose and refill same amount that drain out of tube and repeat as needed to the fluid come out is clean and new. ...in a nut shell.

Try to find the 3309 and use that.
If you checked it before you started it that will make it read high. It needs to be running when checking it.

Go to the local Toyota dealer and pick up a case of T-IV (T-4) synthetic transmsission fluid (about $60) and then do a flush as described on the s40concepts.net web site. TECH can verify if this is okay to do on your car.

That toyota fluid is supposed to be the same as the 3309.

Talking got the T-IV fluid

Okay got the T-IV tranny fluid ($63.00) IM going couldn't find the proceedure on**s40concepts.net** site but seen the gibbons proceedure some where Maybe here or another forum not sure but can't find it now. Wouldn't I take the hose that returns fluid TO the tranny from coolor radiator? Is that the top hose (driverside) Take it out of the radiator and fit my hose to the radiator outlet...Drain 2 quarts from pan refill 2 quarts via dip stick ..then start car and and drain 2 more quarts from car via my hose from radiator? repeat 5 more time but all drains will now come from hose...Just want to make sure the xmission fluid return line (fluid from radiator TO tranny is the top drivers side)? Also can I do the timing belt my self..Done most all my repairs to my cars..(always owned cars that needed work lol so I know a little but just never did a timing belt so far...Maybe my next topic...

Valvoline makes an ATF called Maxlife formulated for cars with over 75K on them that meets T-IV and many other standards.

Is that OK?

I've got a 2001 XC70. It runs great and shifts great, except when it sitting still in drive. Then sometimes it "Thunks" almost like someone ran into the back of me. I had a mechanic change the trans fluid with Volvo fluid, but it still does it. Any suggestions?
