2006 volvo XC90 2.5t
Hey guys!
So we recently purchased an 06 xc90 180k miles, now low oil pressure light is on and engine have some smoke coming out of oil cap once removed while engine is running! A was told by a friend it could be PCV blockage related? do you guys think that's the case? or is it a blown engine? if it is how difficult are the engine swaps? we have a shop and we work on cars! would there be any special tools required? any programming? if i do find an engine worse case.
Thanks

low oil pressure points to the oil pump or oil pick up. PCV system can get clogged several ways - the block can be clogged with gunk the hoses from the block to the oil separator can be clogged or just the oil separator can be clogged. Simple test is to put a rubber glove (ie surgeons glove) over the oil fill port and see if it inflates. If so you have positive crankcase pressure and the PCV needs to be serviced. As to the oil pressure issue, you probably need to drop the pan to inspect the pick up and pump. If you do the PCV system at the same time, then you can really make sure the bottom end ports are clean, put new o-rings in the oil pump etc. As to swapping out an engine, the standard way is to drop the engine/transmission down as a unit (ie undo axles, subframe etc. Assuming you drop in the same block and leave the wiring harness and computer alone you shouldn't need any programming.
