This morning, the Low Coolant sign came on. I turned off the car and turned back on and it didn't do it a second time. I drove the car to work for about 20 minutes on light traffic and averaging 30 MPH. But when I turned right at one corner, the Volvo died on me. I basically parked and tried a to turn it on a few times but just kept shutting off by itself. I left it there and walk one block to the office.

Is it just the coolant? Did it overheat? What do you recommend? Is this something I can fix on my own or call the tow truck?

Have you checked the battery? Years ago mine died because of a dead alternator.

 

Thinking it was a coolant problem and not wanting to take any risks, I tow it to the shop to make sure everything was fine. After an inspection and adding fuel the car ran again. The problem is that the computer said I still had about 40 miles left before running out of gas. It happened about a block from my office and a gas station. The shop checked on everything and did an oil change while there. The front brakes will need to be service in a few months and the mechanic told me that the turbo might be also going out. Is this something normal with these engines (2.5T)? Thanks!

 

By reading the posts on the internet, it seems like the turbo may need attention sooner or later. I just had the inter-cooler hose changed since it was leaking and caused sluggish acceleration and occasionally dead at idling. But it could start right back. After replacing the hose it drives normally. Keep my fingers crossed for the turbo.
