I have a 2006 XC90 2.5T AWD. I have a constant whinning noise that seems to come from a electrical pump near the driverside headlight. It also seems to get very hot, was wondering what this pump is used for and is it easy to replace or should it be done by a mechanic? Do you know of a good place to buy this part online?

What part is this specifically? Our 2006 XC90 2.5T started making a buzzing/whinning noise that's coming from the driver's side as well...

 

It's a vacuum pump for your power brakes. Without it, it will mean little-to-no power brakes for a few seconds after you start the car in the morning and, more troubling, no power brakes if you're using cruise control under the right conditions.
