Default Educate me about what is going wrong here: 2006 XC90 Engine Problems

I own a 2006 XC90. I recently opened the hood with the engine on and noticed smoke coming from the left side of the oil cap. Please see this video for a better idea of what I'm talking about: https://imgur.com/a/vqg8I6v I have looked at a picture of what the engine is supposed to look like: https://imgur.com/a/bup2DIk There appears to be a piece missing? What is this missing piece and what impact is it having to my engine by not being there. The check engine light came on today, and I have noticed periodic knocking and high idling revs. The engine has almost 190000 miles on it. I am thinking about moving onto something else as I can't have an unreliable car. Please give me your thoughts.

Looks like a PCV hose to me. Check out this pdf for a diagram.
