Mounting gps
We just driven home with our first Volvo, 2009 XC90 108000 kms after enjoying a Subaru Tribeca, that was unfortunately written off after colliding with a pick-up. His error!
I had a Garmin gps with back-up camera installed in the Tribeca, and intend to refit it into the XC90. I had made a drop-in metal cradle and mounted it over the center baffle in front of the original display and it could fold flat to access that display.
I feel that the best place for the XC90 would be on the front edge of the center speaker grill, with a pivot along it's lower edge so I can improve the image under most situations. I will need to connect it to 12 volts, and I'm considering routing the power cord through the speaker baffle and locating the rear of the 12 volt socket at the right bottom side of the heater/ac panel to keep things tidy.
Am I correct in thinking the speaker grill plastic surround is what I pull up on? One pdf shows 1/16" welding rod used as a hook and is appears that the rod is fed down the outside of the plastic between the frame and dash. I would like to get a spare grill to use as the cradle support, Ebay?, but I'm not sure if the Canadian vehicle has the same part number, so I guess a trip to my local Volvo dealer is needed
I will use the same professional to install the camera and transmitter.
Any thoughts will be welcome.
I"ll post pics when its done.
