Default Remore Key Fob

Purchased a new remote key fob and after moving key and circuit board to new fob car won't start and gives message Failure to Start, Try Again. Locks and accessories all work but nothing happens when attempting to start. Tried cycling locks 5 times. Disconnected battery and charged all night. Any other resets I don't know about?

Hey, thanks for the response. Here is what I figured out...when I transferred the key to the new fob I didn't realize there must be some kind of chip in the section where the key is located. When I put everything back together in my old fob I was able to start the car again. I think if I hold the old fob head close to the new one in the ignition maybe it might work and program the new one? I'll come back and post if it works.

Thanks again, Smith. Is the chip in the metal key or the plastic case where the button pops up? And, how are you supposed to make the new key fob work when you order one from you or e-euro or somebody?

What exactly did you replace? If you bought a new remote, the key part screws to the remote with a T8 screw. But then the remote wouldn't work without programming. Unless you somehow took just the metal key blade off and somehow put that into some aftermarket remote shell...?

Thanks ES6T. That is what I did...moved the key blade and board to the new aftermarket remote and it wouldn't start the car. I kept getting a Start Failure, Try Again error. The chip is apparently in the plastic part where the key blade is held in with the T8 screw. After I moved everything back to the old remote, the car started (Thank God!!).
My mechanic said maybe if I held the old remote plastic head next to the new while I started it, that might work. It seems that method works for a number of remotes for other cars according to the number of Youtube videos showing that being done. Just don't know if it will work with the Volvo. I bought a valet key but I have to drive 150 miles to a Volvo dealer to get it programmed. Think I will wait until I get that done before messing with this remote and key any more. ;>)
Take care. Thanks for the help, Guys!

Okay that makes sense.

If you make the trip to have the valet key programmed, it might be worth also having a new key programmed. The labor is the same and you're already paying for the software, so the additional cost would be just the cost of the key portion. Then you won't have to worry about trying to monkey around holding the chip close to the antenna ring, which likely won't work anyway.
