Noticed a hum in the rear diff. of my 2004 XC90. It has about 105k miles, and still good looking. Volvo dealer says they need 11K to fix. Any ideas? It still runs good and I really like it's size, so any help would be great.

 

first thing to check is the fluid level. i would just change it since it has 105k on it. 11K for a diff? you need a new dealer. you coudl probably get a junkyard one that will work for few hundred.

 

are you sure its coming from the rear diff. xc90s have a problem with the left rear wheel bearing going bad.

 

Already made the change on all 4 wheel bearings

 

how are your tires? chopped tires will cause a humming noise.

 

Tire are 20k miles old, hoped it was that.
