I have a Volvo S40, which when I drive has developed a power loss. However the engine is still revving at the same rate.
I have had the exhaust done (but not the cat converter) and the petrol tank breather has been done as well. Do not know where to go now, as I have been spending more money which has not worked so far. This is also not a continual problem, and can kick in for a second or minutes.
Could it be electronic?

Do you have a Check Engine light on?

 

Absolutely no lights come on - it is just this sudden loss of power.

What is your model year and accumulated mileage/kilometers? Also, how's the transmission performance? When was the last full tune-up? Was the exhaust repair done right with no blockage? Blocked exhaust can prevent the can from going above certain speed but the engine could rev under no load in some cases.

If the problem is within the engine/tranny electronic control, it usually turns the CEL (Lambda) on but sometimes they don't. If you can afford to, you may wish to have fault code(s) read by Volvo garage.

With limited info, this is the best I can do. Moderator Tech & other experts would be able to give you more accurate diagnosis.
