Back to my roots
Hi there, I just aquired another Volvo after not owning one myself since my first car, a 1962 B-18 Canadian. I loved that car and foolishly let it go in 1972
. The newest was bought in Vancouver B.C. yesterday. Its a 1990 740 Turbo sedan with 228000Kms. Very nice condition well looked after, My wife and I are the 3rd owners. I nearly bought one like it in 1998 but got a 1991 Jetta TD instead. It's been good but wifely wanted a slightly nicer car with air cond after 486000Kms on the non a/c Jetta. So be it!
We are a Volvo friendly family, havingwatched our kids go through their early driving with a 1977 244, and a 1981 245. I was always glad to know that they were safely ensconced in the rugged design of those old beaters. We watched as those beasts disolved with rust before our eyes as the kids drove them up to work at the local ski hill.
I do most of my own work on my vehicles, so am looking forward to tech help when needed and will give same when my Volvo knowledge increases. My son still owns his first car which is a 1966 122s. We will be redoing it together some day and will probably be changing out the Borg Warner automatic to a standard transmission. I'll leave that to another time though.
Wifely has already put me on notice that a 700 series or 900 series wagon may be to her liking so we will see how long the 740 sedan stays in the driveway.

Hello Barclay,
Greetings from Yokohama, Japan.
I wish I were a Volvo-friendly family too, but currently I am back in Japan and have no vehicle
. I plan to immigrate to Canada or the United States asap. I'm an FAA-certified airplane tech, but should I decide to move to Canada, I have to start from scratch, even though I don't mind getting European license.
I hope you have some fun & use in this forum, whatever model you decide to acquire.
Cheers,
JPN
