Considering a return to Volvo
Hi! New to the forum, not new to Volvos. My first car was a 745 GLE, which I loved to death until I was hit in it, totaling the car. (I came out of that upset but otherwise OK.) The replacement was a used '98 S70, which was extremely nice but also extremely problematic. Collapsed clutch fingers at 60k kicked off a run of silly failures that felt like a "death of a thousand cuts." I just needed a reliable car so I bought a used Accord for the interim and ultimately a new '07 Prius that I still own.
Honestly, the Prius is a great piece of engineering that has served me for 90,000mi with only the slightest hiccup (odd, non-safety related brake system glitch that resolved itself) in all that time. My wife has one, too, and it runs like new with 132,000mi on it. Thing is, two Prius plus three dogs plus a propensity to take road trips has become something of a problem. We can make everything fit, but only just. The other thing is that my 6'2" frame has always been a squeeze, and I really miss Scandinavian ergonomics. Long story short, I think it may be time to repatriate in the form of a used V70 or XC70. After plenty of browsing I just can't find anything better for my wants and needs.
So I'll be lurking in search of whatever info will help me avoid a repeat of the S70 disappointment. That seems to have been a particularly problematic year and model, so I'm optimistic. See you out there.
