Smile Hello All! New member - Bad oil pressure sensor?

Hello, my name is Todd and am a new member. Looks to be a great forum!! I have a 2006 S60 2.5T. Well, daughter's first car actually. Has around 150,000 miles on it. Kept getting sparodic 'No oil pressure' warning light. I took out the oil pressure sensor to test, but can't find any info if the sensor in this model should normally be open or closed circuit? I put a multimeter on it and get continuity through it so not sure if its a bad sensor? Any info would be helpful and Thank you!

Have never seen a bad sensor in a 1991-98 850/960 98-00svc70or 2001-07 s60vxc70s80 5 cyl engine. As far as I know the sensor is like all the others. Closed circuit, 0 ohms with no pressure (grounds the light bulb in the dash). And open circuit with 7 psi. (no more ground for the bulb)

I Have seen many clogged oil pickup tubes that cause the oil pressure light to come on a weird times.

A "charcoal" like substance forms due to lacks of oil changes and using non synthetic oil, (maybe about 150K miles) cloggs the PCV system and fills the oil pan with "sludge".

Solution is to remove and clean the oil pan, replace the pickup ube with the new style tube, and replace the PCV system. The pcv parts that are replaced are most of those shown in the following picture. Carefull - half of the low oil pressure pan cleanings I've done were after replacing a bad turbocharger that failed from lack of lubrication. (car arrives smoking so badly you can't drive it, then low oil pressure appears after replacing the turbo)

I did the easy thing first and did replace the oil pressure sensor, you were right, that was not it. What would you recommend, could I just start with the oil pan and tube and check to see if there is sludge in the pan? Or if I do the oil pan first and then still get the no oil pressure warning, then do the the pvc system after? Car will run for 15 to 20 minutes before getting the no oil pressure warning and I did the rubber glove over the oil inlet after running for about 15 minutes and it is getting good suction into the engine (and no smoke and good suction through the dipstick). Or is that not a good test? Again, appreciate the info. Thanks.

The oil drain passageway in the block from the bottom of the plastic oil separator pcv box in the picture above gets completely clogged. You have to remove the box and the oil pan to clean that oil drain passageway both in the block and the pan. If you get that far be sure to use the new plastic tulip shaped oil pickup tube instead of reusing the old metal one.
