Hello everyone!
I'm new to this and I own 2010 XC60i 3.2. I like it more than the old Toyota Highlander I have. I know cars from across the Atlantic are better quality-wise than here; since they developed cars first, (I think - remember the VW Beatle). That's one reason why I bought the Volvo. Well, I been researching how to change transmission fluid on the Volvo, since I don't have records that this was done. Most of the discussions centered on having the engine running when this is done because the oil expand when hot, to arrive at the right oil level. I think you don't have to. If you let the drained oil cool down at room temperature, that is the right level of oil you would need for the new oil.
What do you guys think? -make sense right. No need to measure the temperature of the oil to level it. I welcome any ideas. Thank you. - ustgrad74

My car is 2010 XC60i 3.2L. Due to it's high maintenance, just like MB I used to have, I wish to learn the basic maintenance of my present car. Having driven it, I've learned to love it even if it has some annoying alert messages. I found out that the car's computer recognizes LED headlights are not original and notifies still as being defective. I learned to ignore most of it. Do you have an idea on how to do basic Volvo's maintenance such as; oil, transmission fluid, battery checks, steering, etc ? Let me know and I'll share what Google tells me. Thanks & welcome to the forum!
About a year+ ago I decided I would have to fix my car. I knew nothing about cars but I had no other viable options. I couldn't afford to take Her to a garage or buy a new car. In addition, I live in a small town and the one place that works on foreign cars lost my confidence the last time I took Her in for scheduled maintenance. Replacing a known used car with an unknown used car wasn't logical. Besides, I LOVE my 1998 S70 VOLVO. She's a great car with low mileage. I just didn't take care of her, My friends thought I was crazy and doubted I could/would actually do it (Ye, of little faith). I found ROBERT's You Tube Channel. I searched the Web and found THIS FORUM. So, I got stated one part and issue at a time. I am so LUCKY! Between Robert's You Tube Videos and the KNOWLEDGE from PEOPLE on this FORUM, I have accomplished so much. I did most of the maintenance by myself. I needed help installing the new Radiator and Starter and decided to get "Robert's Repair" (a Local mechanic) to Replace the Rt/Lft CV Joint assembly's . What have I accomplished? I replaced my Radiator, Overflow Coolant Tank and Hose, Replaced my Heater Core, Transmission Speed Sensor, Starter, Trunk Struts, Both Headlight Wire Bundles, Changed my Oil, Replaced my Fuel, Engine, and Cabin Air Filters, Replaced the Engine Air Duct Hose, Replaced Upper Engine Mount, Ordered a rebuilt ABS Module (comes with necessary Torx socket tool) and Replace the broken one, and replaced misc. Engine Hoses. I did all this with the KNOWLEDGE from the PEOPLE on this Forum and Videos on You Tube! I still have a few issues (A/C/Heater and Cruse Control do not work and a Vacuum Leak) but I'm almost there. THANK YOU ALL for Sharing YOUR KNOWLEDGE and saving me THOUSANDS of $$ in mechanic fees and cost of parts. Sincerest Gratitude from, I'm Just a Girl
In 2021, as a pandemic therapy project, I bought a 1992 740 turbo wagon from a friend. It needed some work, and I happily followed all of his suggestions as to upgrades (Kinugawa 20T turbo, 36 lb. injectors, Mike Brown chips, IPD intake tubing, etc.) and it's been a relatively low-stress, low-cost project with great bang for the buck. But now my wife and I want to use it for camping trips, and the flaky climate control system has become an issue. You just don't drive a black car across deserts in the summertime without good A/C. It seems there are as many theories about fan switches, blower motors, blower resistors, etc., as there are 1992 Volvos on the road right now, and I felt the need to explore this forum in depth for some good beta (sorry, "data") on what could be wrong with the damn thing.
If nothing else, I'm hoping that this first post will somehow enable me to edit my signature, as suggested by Robert (S70driver) in his introductory YouTube video at the top of the subforum. So far I haven't figured that out. But I did manage to find and unplug a clogged fitting in the rear window squirty tube on this beast, so I'm sure unscrambling a mere web site will be child's play by comparison. Meanwhile, I've dusted off my voltmeter and will now attempt to download and print the proper climate control system schematic from ... somewhere!
Cheers,
Duane
