Default 1986 Volvo 240 DL gear shift ****?

Hi all -

My gear shift **** came off in my hands recently and I haven't been able to find the right replacement for the 4 speed shifter with electrical overdrive. Can someone direct me to the right part?

The trouble is that the shifter has the 5th-gear button on the top, so I have to get the right part.

I'm not sure if this is the right part: http://www.thepartsbin.com/repsite/s...b~reparts.html

Thanks!

Do you still have the shift ****? Mine came off a few times so I just glued it on. Now if I need to get in there it might require a hammer and a screwdriver.

Default Shift ****

Yes,that looks like it could be the right ****. But I agree with previous poster in that if you still have the original ****, use it. Hopefully you still have it and the little cap that goes around the overdrive switch. The ***** wear and loosen after years of pressure on them. I don't recomend glue, however, to reattach the ****. You will need to remove the **** in order to replace/repair the OD button AND the reverse selector system nylon rods. Both of these commonly go after 20 years or so of use. Yours will soon need them, if they haven't already been replaced. What I did is shimmed up my old, loose **** using nylon cable ties on all 4 sides, crammed down in there and cut off to the proper lenth. Fits tight, and is removable. By the way, IPD USA sells the reverse repair kit at a very reasonable price (with detailed instructions) along with the proper **** and cap.

Default Removing automatic shift ****?

89 240 auto. I removed the button/spring on top and the o/d button on left side. Does anyone know how to remove the ****. I pulled pretty hard and tapped hard with rubber mallet. I am trying to replace plastic gear shift cover. Thank you
