Default 1991 940gl

Hi everyone,
I am looking into some fuel delivery issues in my dad's 1991 940GL with about 500,000km on the clock. I am trying to figure out the what the VIN number means, but there seem to be some discrepancies.
First of all, the engine number code on the vin is 24, meaning a B200E engine, but it doesn't seem like Volvo fitted the 940GL with those (am I mistaken?).
Then, the 5-digit chassis number at the end of the vin starts with a 3, which is odd, since the 1991 940 chassis numbers were in the 5 range.
Lastly, the year code is M, meaning 1991, but it seems like Volvo only started making the GL in 1992.

Can somebody please advise me?
Thanks,
Luke

Where are you, you mention kms, and where was this car made and sold originally?
In the US the 940GL was a 1992 only, I have one. It's just a designation, nothing very special about it, it's a b230NA, Bosch ignition (two fuel pumps) engine with A/T...

Thanks for the response! In Europe, I think the GL was also only in 1992.
The car was bought new by my dad in France in 1991. It was a dealership car used for presentations, so maybe it was sort of a pre-series 940GL with a 740 engine (the B200E), so basically a refitted 740 or 940 by Volvo to present the upcoming 940GL. It is the only explanation I have for the fact that it has a b200e engine, but it isn't very convincing...
The odd thing is that when I put the vin through Volvo websites or vin decoders, it says that it doesn't exist, but I am 100% sure that it isn't a fake one.
PS: what does GL or GLE stand for?

GL stands for Grand Lux I think... The b200 was never sold in the US so we don't know anything about it.
Good luck!
