89 Volvo 240 crank position sensor help
I have a 89 Volvo 240 wagon. It has the distributor on the front of the block and there is a sensor in the center of the trans bellhousing up against the block. I would like to manual swap the car and I'm tired of not being able to do that because I can't find a flywheel or a trans that will work with that sensor. Is there any way to delete it and still be able to run the car? Maybe a distributor I can drop in that already has it built in or something? Somebody has had to figure this out by now
Your car has the LH 2.4 fuel injection system coupled with EZK 116 ignition system. You would have to swap out these systems for older LH 2.2 fuel injection along with the earlier EZK ignition system (I don't know the version). This is necessary since the crank position sensor is an input to both the fuel injection and ignition systems. This would mean changing the ECU for the FI, changing the ignition module, changing engine wiring harness and who knows what other wiring is involved. Frankly, I prefer the LH2.4 vs. LH2.2 as I feel it is a more reliable system.
