Default 940 sun roof

so... my sun roof is stuck. at first it would stick in the open position only once in a while and i would have to push the button a few times before it would move. Then it would stick half way closed if i took my finger off the button. I would have a hard time getting it moving again. then it would stick in the closed position. now it seems its stuck closed permanently.

i wanted to somehow get inside and grease everything up. i took the plastic cover off the motor(i think) just behind th interior rear view mirror. i can't really access anything without cutting the roof material and i don't want to unless its necessary. when i click the button, i can hear something clicking and moving in the roof but it won't open.

any advice would be appreciated.

you pretty much have to remove the headliner to access and lubricate the sunroof mechanisms... the motor module should just unscrew and be removable, it has a small gear that drives a worm gear in the actual mechanism that drives the wires that pull the sunroof fore and back...

You need a good lubing... Tilt the roof UP. From the OUTSIDE push DOWN on the upholstered roof panel, using a flat screwdriver, some space opens to reveal two spring loaded tabs holding the panel attached. Use a hook type tool to release the tabs. The panel drops down to headliner level. Push the whole panel back carefully sliding it back under the headliner. Then the whole sunroof mechanism, tracks, etc are exposed. Clean everything, lube all the tracks and pivots, tighten screws, etc. Also now you can adjust the level of the roof panel if needed.

The front part, where the motor is, just make sure the motor is securely tight as the screws get loose with time.

This is a service unfortunately few address and it should be done now and then to assure good roof operation.
