You have to check all these things you mention. Not too hard to do: timing belt should be OK, is it moving the cam when you crank it?
You may need some fresh gas. Get the plugs out, clean them, regap them.
Squirt some starting fluid into the intake to see if it fires up. If it does, and dies, you know you have a gas problem...

this is my line of thinking for this vehicle
fresh battery (one step up cc from oem)
fresh fuel (regular unleaded) 1/4 tank
sea foam 1/4 tank will rid of moisture and clean injectors
oil change if it has not had one in the last two thousand miles or one year
ngk iridium pre-gapped plugs
lifetime wires
complete tune up
check relays
turbo?

use the correct stock copper bosch or ngk plugs, not iridium.
use bougicord sparkplug and coil wire set, not some 'lifetime' pretty junk sold at a local parts chain
if the battery holds a charge (as tested with a volt meter), no need to replace it.
does the car turn over when you crank it? if yes, pull a spark plug and inspect it, is it wet, smell like gas? plug sparkplug back into wire, use insulated pliers to hold the metal side of the plug against a ground, have friend crank engine over, do you see a solid spark ?
what year/version 940, which engine management system? does it have EGR? Pulsair?
