Default alternator problems burning wires help please

So the other night the car started acting up, and all of the idiot lights came on and they wouldn't come off even if i disconnected the battery and connected it again. and the voltage was reading around 10 but the car was still starting, and now today i park it at work and was thinking if it was gonna start again so i tried and nothing it wouldn't start,
so i jump it and it starts and voltage is regular until i disconnected from the other vehicle it goes down to 9-10volts and then it dies,

so i replaced the voltage regulator and put the alternator back in and the wires started to burn and a lot of smoke came from the engine bay, my ground wires that connect to the alternator was burned to crap so i replaced that and tried to jump it again and it would start smoking,

i finnally took the ground wire off the alternator and it didn't smoke but started up just fine, but it still does the samething when i disconnect from the other car it dies,

somebody please help thanks

i have a 1982 240GLT i think its a 240, it just says Volvo and Turbo on the back

I would start by making sure you have your wires connected as shown ...
