B6304S in 740 GLE wagon

. I may have the opportunity to get a free 24v inline 6 out of a 900 series. I would like to put it into my 745 which has the 2.4 8v in it. Problem Is I don't know enough myself to get it done. my question is what would I need to make it work? could I keep the trany that's in the 740 there? would I need to replace the entire harness or would I just need to swap computers? Would I need a new drive shaft made ect? any information helps. Also I would have access to the full car not just the engine so any electrics or what not I can get out of it.
Why I want to do this. The N/a 8v is just plane slow and sucks gas. the 24v has twice the power about and not any worse on gas

you'll need to swap EVERYTHING from that 960, all wiring harnesses under the hood, the ICU and ECU are completely different, the dashboard wiring is COMPLETELY different on a 960, so nothing will mate (the ECUs and fuse and relay panels are all under teh dash, but on a 960 they are so different you won't even recognize them). you'll need the 960's electronic controlled transmission.
a turbo upgrade would be a LOT simpler.
oh, btw, that whiteblock 960 I6 is a very expensive engine to maintain, it requires a lot more TLC and if it ever breaks its rather fragile timing belt, you're looking at an impossibly expensive valve job.

except thats a 960 motor turbocharged in a 960 car.
So what I'm getting is It would be a lot of work and time. But I wouldn't be spending more than $200 since I have the whole donor car to work with. the biggest problem for me would be time. I don't want to be without it for more than two weeks.
You know a 940 is worth more and is more desirable than a 960, for a reason.

If I was going to do this (having never done one myself) I would budget a lot more than two weeks, and I would buy a beater and drive that while I did the swap over the Summer.
I would also instead look into parting out that free donor motor here or on Ebay, getting a 5.0L Ford Mustang motor/tranny and putting that in instead. Moar powa! ...And better mileage on the highway than either.

Ok, well thanks for the help. Sadly I can't sell the parts of the donor as it is one of my teachers and the deal was he would get my engine. I think Ill just save up for a turbo conversion and worldclass t5 trany
the most cost effective turbo conversion is to find a solid 740/940 turbo and buy the whole car. the 94/95 940 turbos have additional cylinder head and piston skirt lubrication which improves longevity.
