Car Not Starting
Hi, i am new and my car is not starting and keeps trying to start up when the key is put into the ignition. we had a guy who knows about cars have a look at it and check fuses and other stuff and he said the gas is not going into the engine. but the fuel pump is fine and fuel filter is working as well i believe it is a gas issue so what are my options for correction?

Time to get someone else that know's more about cars.
spark
fuel
compression
timing
if all those things are good, the engine has to run. any one or more of them is bad, it won't run.
you didn't even mention what year/model you have.

hi yes i have a 1993 940 volvo could it possibly be the fuel pressure regulator? because the problem is no gas is going into the engine and this part does exactly that helps gas flow into the engine
a broken FPR dumps too MUCH gas in the engine
on a 740/940, there's a 'radio suppression relay' under the hood which provides the power to the fuel injectors, if its broken, no injection.

When you go to start the car, turn the key to the II position. You should hear the main fuel pump run for 1-2 sec and then shut off. The main pump is underneath the car just below the back seat on the driver side so it may be easier to hear if you leave the drivers door open. If you do not hear the pump run when you do this, then most likely the culprit is the fuel pump relay which is located behind the glove compartment.
I try to make it a habit of listening for the pump each time I start the car. If you don't hear it, the car won't start.

History?
Was the car running and then this?
Or is it new to you?
Spray some starting fluid into the intake prior to starting. If it fires up momentarily, then dies, you KNOW you have a fuel issue. If no joy with starting fluid, then you got a spark problem. Go from there.

hi, yes i have watched the vedio and it was very informative thank you and i also took my car to the mechanic and he said he was the fuel pump the problem is when i put the key in the ignition i do not hear the fuel pump for 3 to 4 seconds what could it be?
your car actually has TWO fuel pumps, one in the gas tank, one under the car, unless it has Regina fuel injection, then there is only an in-tank pump.
you should hear the main pump run for 1-2 seconds when you turn the ignition on (position II) before cranking. its fairly quiet whirr, you would have to be in a quiet environment to hear while sitting in the car. the in-tank pump is nearly silent and quite hard to hear.
you brought it to a mechanic, he says its the fuel pump, and you're asking us that have never seen the car what it could be? assuming this was a competent mechanic, I'd suggest its probably the fuel pump.
before replacing a main fuel pump, a competent mechanic would confirm that the pump is getting power by using a volt meter at the fuel pump connections, while someone turns the key on (you will only see voltage for 1-2 seconds). if there's no power at the pump for that 1-2 seconds, then its probably NOT the pump, time to start checking the fuel pump relay, and other related stuff.
