well, I thoguht there were two red wires to the original switch, these are both battery +... let me look at the greenbook official schematics I've got here (in copy protected form so I can't screencapture)....

ah, no, its a 740/940 that has dual reds, ok. 240 ignition switch wired as follows...
  • pin 30 - red wire - power from battery
  • pin 15R - blue wires, power in II (run) or III (start), for fuel pump relay and fuse 5
  • pin 15I - blue-yellow and blue-red wires - power in II (run) only, power for parking lights and fuses 11,12,13
  • pin 50 - pink wire - power in III (start) only, starter solenoid
  • pin X - yellow and yellow-black wires, power for fuses 1,2,3, also airbags, powered in I (accessory) and II (run)
  • pin S - red-white wire - warning buzzer, powered in I,II,III (acc, run, start).

your aftermarket switch probably doesn't have all these combinations. good luck.

OK, but why? 95% of buyers would be totally turned off by this "modification". And eventually you will come to sell... Not to mentions the obvious drawbacks to putting some hardware store lawn mower ignition on a Volvo. If it is cost, you can get lock and key used for $20 on ebay....

I agree with lev, I am not too crazy about that modification either.

never mind that switch won't provide the same combinations. MAYBE you could use two diodes on your funky switch's start and accessory positions, and connect the red/white wire to that. otherwise, if you wire that just to Ignition, odds are, your seatbelt warning will reset and restart when you start the car.

and, yuck on using a separate key for ignition and door, been there, done that, hated it... if you got a real Volvo keyswitch, you could bring it to a good locksmith along with your car's old keys, and they can mod the lock so your old keys work

Default Need som clarifications....

Hi!

Thanks for the help and thoughts about, if its right move or not. I appreciate your opinions!

I'm sorry to say that I'm really tired from work and I cant figure out right pin to the ignition switch.

I'm really thankful that you explained what each cable is meant for. Thats gold!

Would you be so kind to write exactly, were each cable, should be placed on which pin.

I don't want to mess up because Im tired and misinterpret.

  • BAT
  • IGN
  • ACC
  • ST

Ex: Pin 30 - red wire= BAT

  • pin 30 - red wire=
  • pin 15R - blue wires=
  • pin 15I - blue-yellow and blue-red wire=
  • pin 50 - pink wire=
  • pin X - yellow and yellow-black wire=

Thanks again, I'm a beginner on the electric side and don't want to mess up! So I rather ask two times!

Cheers and hope you all have a nice day

pin 30, red wire -> BAT
pin 15R and 15I, blue stuff -> IGN
pin 50, pink wire -> START
pin X, yellow stuff -> ACC

and the red-white seatbelt alarm wire probably can go on IGN too.
