Default Exhaust Manifold Perhaps?

There's a loose manifold next to the engine. Not really sure what the manifold is to, so I figured I'd post pictures and see if anyone else knows what it's to, and it's importance. Should it be connected to something? If so, how should I go about doing so so it'll stay on where it's supposed to go.

thats the dreaded heat riser hose. there's a mechanical thermostat in the bottom of the air filter box, and if its very cold out, its supposed to suck air from that pipe thats been pre-warmed by the exhaust manifold. everyone I know has wired that thermostat permanently closed, and leaves the hose in your first picture connected only because its a smog check item. those thermostats have a tendancy to jam open, then the hot air cooks the MAF.

Hmm... Probably don't want something to burn up... what do you recommend I do with the manifold? And is there anything I should do with said thermostat, or just leave it alone?

no, having that disconnected isn't a problem at all, unless you live where they smog inspect, they might fail you for that. just put that foil duct back over the manifold thing it was on originally, use a hoseclamp to keep it in place.
