Help, I hate my drivers' seat! (740 SE)
I own a (formerly) beautiful red 91 740SE (wood, leather, sunroof, heated seats) that I bought new in '91. For those who don't know--including some dealers in my experience--this was a special edition 740 turbo sold in California. I believe there were only 500 made.
It has been a very good, and incredibly cheap car to own, and I've taken good care of it--except for cosmetics.
I'm putting a little money into it, and may get it painted (I was quoted $4500, but I'm really hesitant to spend that much--part of the point of keeping the car is to SAVE money). But the one item that has driven me nuts for years is the drivers' seat, which has a lumbar support that keeps breaking. I am hesitant to hang onto it and keep getting it fixed, and the resurface the leather would probably run into a $1200 or more for both front seats. I can imagine that Volvo probably doesn't even make a new one that would match the leather in the rest of the car. If I got one from a salvage yard, it would probably also be beat to death. I am thinking of getting aftermarket seat. Can anyone suggest one that would match a tan leather interior? Or maybe just any color that I can put a sheepskin cover on??
Thanks,
Kevin

go to a junkyard, buy a PASSENGER seat, and swap the leather to the driver's seat. the bottom cushion is really easy, the back takes a little more but still no big deal. only thing in the end you'll have a small dime size hole on the side where the lumbar adjustment was on the opposite (right) side-easy to take care of.
