Leaking Power Steering Hose
While doing routine inspections, noticed there was fluid on the power steering pump and also on the hose that connects the pump to the reservoir. As far as I know, this is referred to as the return hose? I could be wrong. The hose clamp is tight, so I am assuming the hose is old and needs to be replaced. The leak is not catastrophic and the power steering works fine for the level of fluid in it, planning on topping up the fluid after fixing the leak. Just wanted to make sure that this is the right name for the hose, and was looking for recommendations on what website or store to purchase this part from. Thank you.
You can replace it with any hydraulic hose of the proper size and length. What size it is...I'm leaning towards 3/8" ID, but I'm only 99% sure. I picked it up at Autozone. When installing it, do your best not to break the reservoir! I could only get the hose on far enough to put a clamp on it, but its been fine.
While you're at it, put in an in-line magnefine filter to prolong the life of your steering components. I picked up one that had 3/8" hose barbs...which I guess confirms the sizing of the PS hose return line.
The most important thing is to not use fuel lines instead of hydraulic lines!
