Default Malfunctioning Turn Signals

Hello,

I have a 1992 240 wagon. I've always had electrical problems with it. Recently, my turn signals have been refusing to work. The fuses are all brand new. At first I thought I had a dead bulb somewhere and all the lights were connected somehow, but on occasion the turn signal lights start working again. The problem is intermittent which led me to believe there was something mechanically wrong with the switch on my steering column, except that my hazard light function is suffering from the same problem (and this is an entirely separate switch, as far as I know).

I am completely at a loss as to what to do. I found the appropriate wiring diagrams in my manual, but embarrassingly I have no idea what I'm looking at. I'm very dumb when it comes to electronics. I post here hoping that someone has had a similar problem, and that maybe you found a way to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Foggy240

I would check the grounding points and make sure that the contacts are clean and where the contacts bolt to the frame are clean. Also, if you suspect the switches you could pick a used one up at a wrecking yard for cheap. But I'm not altogether sure about anything.
