Odometer Question
Hey guys...I just picked up an '88 240DL wagon with a dead odometer and trip odometer. From what I have read, I get the impression that if that plastic gear is broken, it will just affect the odometer and the trip odometer should work fine. Is this correct? I'm wondering if I have some other issue since both are dead (however, the speedometer, gauges and clock work fine).
Wrong. The biodegradable gear drives both the permanent odometer as well as the trip odometer. Don't bother attempting a used one...no exageration, I've been able to take the old gear and roll it into a ball. New gears are ~$20 and well worth it! You can buy them from http://www.davebarton.com He's the guy who designed the moose stickers such as the one you're using as an avatar.

Thanx! Just wanted to make sure before I order it from him, BTW, just picked up a silver and gray pracing moose sticker for the 240 and it looks awesome.
Well, it started out as a 5.0 but it was bored and stroked to 347. It's in a 740 and it is no sleeper. Four mufflers and 2 cats and it's still way too loud to fool anyone.
