Oil sensor light - no show
I'm almost ready for the test that will absolve my '86 DL 240 from the catacombs of having had a salvage title. It's an electrical test and all lights need be working. My one missing one is the oil sensor light - the wire may have got shorted. How could I run a wire from the sensor to the dash? Any clues? Thks.
the oil pressure sensor is on the RIGHT (exhaust) side of the engine, on the side of the block, under the exhaust headers, and right next to the oil filter. IIRC (its been awhile), this wire goes into the same harness bundle as the D+ wire from the alternator, which is right next to said oil filter and oil pressure sensor.
first thing I'd check is if the wire is even there and connected. if it is there, disconnect the wire and temporarily short it to ground with the ignition switched on, the light should come on. if it does, then the sensor itself is probably bad. if it doesn't come on, then the bulb may be out, or the wire may be bad.
on a 87/88 (I don't have 86 prints), its a black wire that goes to pin 31/5 on the back of the instrument panel, connector 31 is the full circle one.

I would suspect this varies by jurisdiction. I know california verifies the CEL, if provided, lights up at ignition on and goes out at start.
Thanks Pierce - I've copied the info and will try and make it happen - tho it's true the oil doesn't matter in this test but of course you want to have that light. I find it amazing and impressive that on an 18 year old Volvo most of the electrics do still work.
