Default Radio removal 86 740

I have 82 240 with 276K mi and 86 740 with 180Kmi
I can't find sufficient information on how toremove center console sides on the 740. I want to replace the original radio with one from the 240, good after market unit.

Some info indicates that you must remove the glovebox to be able to remove the side panel.
I have removed the panel below the glove box, tried to remove the glove box by removing the two nuts on the bottom. It seems to have something holding it in the front.

Any help or links would be appreciated.

I am not shure because when I got mine it had a aftermarket radio but the adapter has a clip on each side that slides into the stock rail. the adapter juest snaps in and out. if you want to remove the side panels I think there are bolts under the ashtray and cig lighter, ash tray is stright foward, to remove the cig lighter and cd holder type rig you got to pop the square cover off from around the cig hole there are 2 bolts under it. then juest pull it stright out. o and when you take out the cig lighter the plastic case with the notched rails in the side around the radio should come out too it dose on mine

Hope it helps

This might be helpful. I used this site when I replaced my stereo in my 740. http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/865001.pdf

Good luck.

Thanks guys. I got it out! The link indicated it may have an external amp. Well it did. Thought it would be an afternoon of cut and splice. Have to get special adapter due to angle of console and splice speaker wires back to new radio. Oh well!
Thanks again.
