Default Smoking on turbo side of engine...

94 940 turbo, son says car was hesitating, not running well when into the boost. Pulled in, smoking from the turbo side of engine, can't quite see where from and it's now smoking from exhaust, smells like oil. Antifreeze is not oily or discolored, but a day later reservoir is almost empty. Oil is normal, no indication of water.

It's been too cold to explore further (-10), and I am looking for leads to explore later.
Headgasket?
Turbo oil seals?
Rings?

Things to look for when it gets warmer...
Thanks in advance

Pull off turbo cold side intake and wiggle the compressor wheel see how much play she has.

Pull spark plugs and look at. A shiny clean on might indicate the presence of coolant, or a bad head gasket. Smell the exhaust see if it smells sweet.

Update:
Rebuilt the engine, bored .060 over, new pistons, rings, bearings all around. Head surfaced, valves lapped and seated...

Rebuilt the turbo using an ebay kit for seals, etc.

Got it all put back together and fired up! Rough idle, hesitation when given a bit of throttle, suspect cap and rotor replacing those in two days (when NAPA gets them in stock)

Now I still have oil smoke on the turbo side, when accelerating or at a standstill and you give it gas, smoke from the manifold side and out the exhaust...

Turbo done??? Any insights would be appreciated!

Last reply on this topic, nothing is worse than an unsolved/closed chat.

Ended up replacing the turbo cartridge, had leak from the water side to the oil side internally, causing all sorts of grief, now all is well in the world, $188 well spent.
