Default Starter Noise On Startup

Every time I start the car I hear a whining or chatter noise for about 1-2 seconds. Someone suggested this might be the starter bendex that is spring loaded. I have lived with it for a year and it has not gotten worse.

Eventually, what will happen?

Could it cause the starter to stay on and somehow damage the flywheel?

Is the fix a new starter?

thanks

You will need a new starter.

I've just installed a newly rebuilt BOSCH starter and w/ignition key on, it makes the whining noise the previous post described, as if starter gear is not engaged.
Do I have another bad starter? What else could cause such noise?
Is there anything else I can try before I uninstall the unit and take it to AutoZone for bench test?

Thanks for your time!
