Default transmission takes long to shift

1990,240dl transmission when cold will shift at 40mph shouldn't happen. can someone shed some light

How long is it since the transmission fluid was changed? It should be changed every 20,000 miles.

I had an north american car that shifted at a higher speed than normal. Found a crack in one of the vacuum hoses and that fixed it.

thanks for the post. change the fluid recently with the strainer,but the car seems to shift ok when the temp guage reaches midway any reason why this will happen, and in second gear i'm having to shift to a lower gear to get the trans.to move on.

SPANK- my 240 had a "hung up" shift down cable, and took a long time to shift out of low. check that, maybe lubricate too. Dave

where exactly is the shift down cable, how do i drain all the trans.fluid out of the trans (torque convertor as well.dont want to damage engine by it taking toooo long to shift from 1st gear.


help any moresuggestions

spank- theres a large cylinder on the top that the throttle cable goes around. The shift down cable attaches to that cylinder andruns down to the tranny. Mine didnt need lubrication, it just got itself hooked on a clip or something.

[8D]Are you having the trouble between 3 & 4th .
I had my overdrive solinoid gunk up 1 time .
Fluid needed pumping as well .Gunked up torque converter .
