Back again.

MAFwise, in the end no less than three different aftermarket variants didn't work:

START - COUGH - HUNT - SURGE - DIE

Restart; same result.
Clear all codes; same result.
Disconnect/reconnect battery; same result.

Original Bosch, still lumping along...

So, here's what finally DID work:

...in conjunction with this:

Interminable 960 Engine Vibration . . .-526-926175-qtips_productpack_500.png

...and this:

Interminable 960 Engine Vibration . . .-fingers.jpg

After about 45 minutes of directly and CAREFULLY rubbing the intractable, baked-in crud on the Pt wire surface with tiny amounts of Q-Tipped lapping compound, the wire was acceptably clean. Still a small amount of surface discoloration, but that was all: The offending coating was gone.

Rinsed thoroughly with a firm, directed stream of rubbing alcohol.

NOTE: The hot-wire aftermarket products probably can't be cleaned in this manner; as the wire element is filament-thin and quite brittle!

Reinstall:

START - SPUTTER - HUNT - SURGE - HUNT - SPUTTER - HUNT ... SETTLE.

50 to 70% of the butt-massage factor gone; and a few more beans found in the exchange. Sent all of the aftermarket units back for someone else's enjoyment

NOW, what evidently happened here is the aftermarket units present a baseline signal level to this ECU which is simply too far akilter for the stock algorithm to acquire and map. The old Bosch unit, when cleaned, seems to have demonstrated the correct response scenario; with loop closure as the endpoint.

DONE.

For the rest, I'll probably be turning some attention the the injector set next: Might've gobbled some bad gas at some point along the way. After that, we'll see what shakes and rattles from there

As A. A. Milne would say,

Bisy
Backson.
C. R.

(Cheers)

@jands:

Yessir; and the suppliers just seem to have never heard of the issue. I guess this makes it a confirmed problem in both OBDI & OBDII...

Must be a lucrative proposition to issue those refunds
