1996 Volvo 850 Transmission clunk
I have a '96 850 turbo and it just developed a small clunking noise when I shift from park to drive or reverse, the noise is coming from the front end and otherwise the car shifts and drives great. Any ideas?
The car has about 160K miles and I have never replaced the transmission mount, have had the car since about 130K. Not sure whether the sound is coming from the tranny or driveshafts, will try to check that out today. Thanks
I'll put my money on old/dirty transmission fluid, plus something more serious.
I had the problem 2 years go. Clunked every time I put it in reverse. I changed the fluid (drain-fill 3 times) and I haven't heard it since then.
With that said, there is still a little jerk when it is really hot and I shift into reverse, but I have found out to be Solenoid 2 on the transmission. Sadly the only fix is a new transmission.
