well, Matt01, I caved! I gave in to the unforseen forces and now it's at Volvo's which will charge me an arm and a leg to put in the seat, which I had to buy another since the first one I bought from them cracked even though I didn't stand on it like you did. But I could drive it without the seat which tells me we can hold this sucker down with other things, like rubber bands?

Matt, there are two "horizontal" notches on the gear stick with one vertical one running down the front. Now, when you put back the boot section, it clicks into place on the upper horizontal notch and can't be pushed down farther. Is it supposed to be on that upper notch rather than on the bottom one? By the way, the Volvo mechanic, using the Volvo technique of putting in the ball seat (with the drift tool and tapping it back in), cracked the ball seat too. So I don't feel too bad--except for what it costs me in the end, so little consolation.

it seems like yours is a real pita.
the boot slides down to the second notch... again, persuasion, i think i just tapped it down with something to make it slide out of the first notch. it will go.

all in all the design of these is horrible, a child could do a better design.

A little hint for those who brake the plastic (like I did). There is enough material to put in a short screw, just use the "dremel." I gave 3 screws around and fits absolutely fine.
