Default Heat, A/C, Vent Control Problems

A few weeks ago, right as it started cooling down aroundhere (Texas), the radiator fan froze up, and I had to unplug it, and I haven’thad a chance to replace the fan

Shortly thereafter, all the environmental controls have basically gone dead. The vent controls do not work, and you can’t event turn down the blower fan, it just blows air at air temperature. (So you can’t even turn up the heat). Basically the environment control panel is pretty much useless. It DID do the flashing AC/REC lights once, but I haven't been able to get it to do that again.

Now – I KNOW I need to replace the radiator fan anyway(duh! ), but is there anything else I need to look at before I go to the bone yard to get a fan? I know there has to be a fault somewhere, and I should start with replacing the radiator fan, but I was just wondering if there is anything else I should look at.

Not sure what you have going on with this thread.

We ALL know that the fan on the rad has nothing to do with your heat inside the car...

What type of system is in the car? ECC or MCC?

What year is it ??

ECC has a variable fan speed control and the MCC has a numbered fan setting.

If you can read the codes yourself that would be the very first thing to do.

"and you can’t event turn down the blower fan, it just blows air at air temperature."

Is that two problems or one. Does the fan respond to the fan speed selector and can you get each speed from the blower motor ??
Are you saying you can't adjust temperature ??

Ok – sorry – thought I had the vehicle info in my signature.

It’s a 1995 850 GLT, and from what I can see it, it’s the ECC (Electronic Control)

The Airspeed – The slider switch does nothing – the blower fan just blows air at full speed no matter what position the slider is in. Also the vent controls do not work.

Temperature control – No I cannot adjust the temperature, itjust blows air at air temperature.

Also – I only saw the HVAC “flashing lights” event once. Iam thinking there is a fault somewhere with the ECC Panel, just don’t knowwhere to start looking. All the fuses and everything look okay, but I was wondering if there was some sort of secret relay (like maybe that one behind the glove box, which I haven’t check yet) or somewhere else.

I mentioned the radiator blower fan because that happened, and then almost immediately the climate control went out. So even though I know the devices are notconnected, I was just think if that went out, that maybe it caused a fault somewhere else.

Thanks again!

So where is this resistor again? is it the one that is in the glove box area? The ECC is not getting ANY power whatsoever.

The lower picture is marked for a broken blend door shaft but the blower motor resistor or as Volvo calls it the "Power Stage" is the black box near the lower right corner.

One other thing to look at when you have poor heat is the air mix slider. It blends in fresh outside air and your heater will be useless if it's open.

Had no clue what it was and went into a Minnesota winter my first year with it partially open. Couldn't figure out how a car from Sweden could have such a poor heater. For me that switch falls right in line with the steering wheel so I never really saw it.

The air mix slider gets me too. The other day it was 100F and I was wondering why my aircon was so sucky. Oh close the airmix, ice cold.
