Default How Much To Cost To Restore A 850?

Thinking,
-repaint whole car and door jams w/ trim removed
-new headliner
-new leather and or repair
-wheels refurbished
-new/used front bumper
-new/used rt rocker panel
-new/used rt fender
-new/used inner wheel liner
-new/used door cards/panels or vinyl redone
-dye carpets tan again
-seat rest cable
-micro switch in door lock that controls the lights above
-new/used emblems
-new/used headlight lens
-new/used grill
I thinking $5 grand give or take (mostly on the paint), my friend thinks all could be done for less. Just something I'm pondering on when after I graduate from college and get a job first, so 7-10 years from now. Car is mechanically fine so I didn't bother to list it yet...

Um....enough to make it so unworth it. When for way less than that you can buy one.

Wait, have you even tried pricing it yourself before making this thread?

Majority of that is DIY or junkyard.

I did check on the prices for a while now and that's my guess on price, but my friend still thinks all could be done for less. Sort of in a debate as you can say. The only reason I want to restore it someday even if for most part it make no logical sense at all is because the car has sentimental value to me. My aunt got this car brand new when I was only 3 years old and a lot of memories has gone with it from driving to the movies, around town to vacations. I believe it was a birthday present to my aunt from my uncle, because they brought the car one day after her birthday. She even told me she didn't really thought about buying it when she was looking at a 850 on the showroom floor while waiting for her then1989? 740 gle at the service station when my uncle suggest to get the car for her. I always love Volvo's since little with the 850, 740, and 960 besides the Mercedes W124. Had this car since I was in the 8th grade and working on it since 6th grade. Also got my license with this car.

BTW it's really hard to get junkyard parts in St. Louis. I used to all them all the time if they have one and the answer is no and they are in the worst part of town.

The total I figure was $3250, most of which is the paint job. I have found some very nice cars in junk yards around here. I actually restored a 850 sedan about 2 months ago for under $500.

Since the world is coming to an end in December you'll never really get started on it, will you?

That and just in case the poor guy tasked with carving the Mayan calendar into stone stood up one day and said something about having it done for over two thousand years in advance and wanted a break and didn't get back to it and the world isn't going to end in December, what are your chances of actually having this car in seven to ten years with seven to ten more years of wear on it ??

Well I won't be able to post pictures until next weekend if the latest. I have finals coming up. If you guys ever have the time to go through my old posts, I think I mention some of my problems with pics (not sure been a while). Also Kiss4aFrog, you're such a Debbie downer. :P Since the car still runs extremely well, then might as well keep on driving. Hope I didn't jinxed it. I might just get a commuter car and just park this one for weekends only by then 7 years down the road.

Man, don't get another car to try to keep that one safe. The best way to create problems with an old car is to park it. Drive the heck out of the thing, that's what Gordon does.

Never, never, never, never, never, did I say never, get another car to take a load off of one unless the car is a collector. Something that wont loose value. Phew...

I still have a 95 Thunderbird I bought new so maybe you will hang on to it long enough to restore it but I don't mind being a downer if that's what reality does to people.
I think it's a little crazy to ask people to guess at prices for stuff you have no intention on doing for seven years. Then again, maybe I just need more medication.

The up side is maybe someone coming across this thread is going to do some of that stuff and now they have an idea of what it's going to cost them.

About the whole "world ending" thing, the Mayans made a calendar without leap years. So the world should have ended many months ago.
