lost reverse
Hi i got the 94 850 turbo a year ago and in the last six months i have been feeling it slip in reverse. More recently it has been slipping until i give it a bit more gas, then it suddenly catches and surges quickly backward then reverses easier but still slips
no problems with the forward gears at all. so it shouldn't be the low/reverse clutchpack.
now it will barely creep at all if i really goose the throttle. it felt like the valve for the reverse band is sticking and then suddenly opening and causing the car to surge back. but it could also be the friction material going out and was finally grabbing.
please anyone?

Pick-n-pull sells transmissions for $45-$75. Seriously beats rebuilding costs. You need to way out your options, tracking down and repairing this is going to require the trans coming out of the car anyway. A lot cheaper to just slip a wrecking yard trans back in place.
yea a working trans would be a good option, but there is no way to know if it's a good unit or not. i could pay the money and wind up with a trans in worse condition.
the rest of the trans is fine. if it were the reverse clutches i'd have problems in low gear as well because they share the same clutch-pack and a reverse band grabbing one of the clutch drums is what makes the difference between low & reverse. (trained in transmissions about 9 years ago but haven't used the knowledge much)
Mainly I want to know if anyone has info on whether the valve-body/ silonoids / reverse bands is the common culprit.
i'm not sure what the silonoids do on this trans yet as it is
