Hi all. Like the headline say, My volvo acting strange. I have a Volvo 850 2.0 Automatic 1996. The problem is the trottle and engine.

When I driving the car is so slow when accelerating, it`s same as the brakes hangs on or something (the brake is ok). The trottle cable is also a little hard to push down. But sometimes the engine kicks to and the trottle cable is a little lighter to push down and the car flying away. it`s like the brakes let go. it goes a little time and then it goes back to normal again. If you can call it that.

I have a thought about the trottle cable but I think that is strange beacouse that has nothing to do with the accelerating of the engine and the slow motion. Bybe I`m wrong here, I don`t know.

I hope anyone here can help me with som answers to this problem.

 

What year is your car? Is the CEL on?

 

it is a 1996 mod. I don`t quite understand what light you are talking about. I have no check engine light on my car. I have a engine electronic diagnosic error light and a Service reminder light, but anyway, non of them is on when the engine is running. I did a diagnostic test on the car and no error codes.

This is a Non turbo car.

 

CEL=Check Engine Light. Have you inspected the throttle cable? Is it installed properly? When was the last time the car was tuned up?

 

I don`t have that CEL engine light on my car, instead I have the Y chaped light Engine electronic diagnostic light. But all of my warning ligt`s are off when the car is running and no error codes to read.

I did check the trottle cable as you sugested. I hade some WD40 on it and the trottle system too. but that did not work. it is the same as before.

 

Tommy, you really have an issue with addressing 1/2 of my post. That can get frustrating to me, posting my suggestions and questions over and over again.

When is the last time the car had a tune up?

 

Ok sorry for my bad English. About the CEL light, it is off when the engine is running. no lights at all. and no error codes.


I have never tuned my car, I had my car for about 1 year.

 

That might help.

 

After some examinations I found out that the switch for the winter mode was bad. When the winter mode kicks in the transmission starts in 3 gear and that causes the bad acceleration. I changed the bad switch and now it`s working normal again, all the time.
